How to change a flat tyre – for even the girliest of girls!
Dreading the day you’ll be stuck on the side of the road with a flat tyre? This is actually not as painful as it sounds, and you will even walk away with your nails in tact. Kick off your heals ladies, it’s time to get down and dirty!
Checklist of what you will need (always be prepared!)
- - A spare tyre - usually in the trunk of the car underneath the carpet. Remember to check your spare tyre regularly.
- - A jack (which can also be found in the trunk).
- - Wrench (your tyre tool to loosen those nuts).
- - Towel or rag – useful to kneel on when changing the tyre, as this might be harsh on your stockings or new pair of Levi’s.
- - Red triangle.
- - Car manual - should you need it.
How to change a tyre
Step 1
Park your car on level ground, put your car into gear, pull up the parking break (for extra safety, you can place big rocks behind/in front of the wheels), and put on your hazard lights. Now collect all the things listed above from your car, and place the red triangle 30m from the rear of the vehicle.
Step 2
Take the hubcap off, and loosen the nuts with your tool BEFORE you jack up the car. Remember girls: Rightie tightie, Leftie Loosey! And you might need to step on it a bit – literally!
Step 3
Here comes the part that women dread the most – jacking up the car. Locate the platform that the jack will use when lifting the car – refer to the manual to see exactly how and where to position the jack. You will be surprised at how effortlessly the car will lift! Lift the car just high enough to remove the tyre.
Step 4
Remove all the nuts, and keep them safe. Now you can remove the flat tyre (this part might require some effort).
Step 5
Put on the spare tyre with the air valve facing out, and screw on the nuts.
Step 6
Lower the car with the jack, and tighten all the nuts (this might require some stepping on them again).
Step 7
Put all your tools and flat tyre in the trunk, and you’re good to go!
Now that that’s done, time to open up the hood and overhaul that engine! Just kidding, one step at a time ladies…
